Macys.com, operated by Macy's, Inc., is an online store with nationally-focused sales. With regards to the product range, macys.com specializes in the Fashion category, particularly in the area of Bags & Accessories.
Over the last year, the Macy’s has made investments in boosting ecommerce, even as shoppers returned to stores. In a bid to boost the assortment of goods available online, Macy’s launched a marketplace in September 2022 that started to invite third-party sellers into the marketplace.
According to CEO Jeff Gennette who told analysts on the company’s earning calls, in 2019, Macy’s online store made up 25% of Macy's revenue. That jumped to a high of 44% in 2020. By 2022, digital reached 33% of sales after the pandemic boom. In 2023, it remained at 33%.
Macy’s is continuing to build the marketplace even as it racks up sales. By the end of 2023, the retailer added over 1000 different brands into Macy’s marketplace. This is helping to draw in new customers, as well as younger existing customers who are buying more items, resulting in increased basket size.
Currently, Macy’s has worked with many US agencies and consulting firms to attract more qualified online sellers starting selling in their site.
How to get invites into Macy’s marketplace:
Again, Macy's is an invite-only marketplace. If you are invited to sell on Macy's, the following requirements apply:
Verified UPC codes in the GS1 database for every proposed product.
UPS account for returns.
W-9 form.
US business tax ID.
US-based warehouse(s).
US-based address(es).
